Club athletic competition
began on a rainy Saturday morning, November
3rd, 2007 with the ninth week of competition
for Springwood little athletes and Blue
Mountain senior athletes.
Overnight rain had moistened up all
eight lanes but the track was still firm
due to the lack of any sustained rain
over the past few months.
We begin with the first event of the
day, the 3,000m, where James Perrett
was in fine form to take first place
in a time of 9.50.10. The second male
home was James Barnes with the time of
11.42.30. Female honors went to Melinda
Vernon, who took the Tom Hunter Park
open female record with a time of 10.07.60.
Second placed female was Jessie Vernon,
who recorded a big 3000m PB, with the
time of 11.47.80.
Sprints
action saw an interesting 60m, where
Michael Ferguson and Earl O’Brien
both recorded excellent 8.5 secs performances
with Ferguson taking first place by the
width of a vest. The 70m which followed,
also saw a good performance from rising
sprint star Andrew Nethercote who ran
a time of 10.6 secs. However, the sprint
performance on what rapidly became a
soaking wet day, saw Michael Ferguson
crank out a super 13.99 secs in the 100m.
400m action saw Earl O’Brien put
in a 64.20 secs effort
We
conclude with the 1500m, where Earl
O’Brien took first place with a
time of 4.42.80. He was followed home
by James Perrett with a time of 4.59.70.
In unreported action from last week,
the 400m also saw a PB to Andrew Nethercote,
Louis De Couvreur put in a competitive
effort in the 60m hurdles and there was
a PB by Damian Hill in the high jump.
This event also saw excellent high jumping
by Tanami Hill.
