Weekend
of August 9/10 saw the final stages of the throwing cage extensions
finished. The new circles have been laid and look great.
Special thanks to the volunteers who gave up their time to complete this work.
They are:-
Alistair
Fournel, Graeme Mell, Brett Kingston,
Brett Sowerby, and Craig Carmody, who was also gaining points for his Duke
of Edinburgh Award. Well done and thanks.
Special thanks also to Colleen Carmody for our morning tea and lunch.
There
are a few on the committee and from the families of athletes who give
valuable time to the club. Please don't leave it all to the "regulars".
They too have other lives outside the club, and the more wide spread the help, the less burden it is for those few.
It's your club. Be part of it.

Volunteer Practical Workshop for Officials |

A major issue in athletics is the recruitment and retention of volunteers. With an aging technical officials population it has become a key concern. Therefore Athletics NSW is restructuring the volunteer program, so we do not have a severe shortfall of officials at events.
The major change to the volunteers’ structure is the introduction of the technical support volunteer. Technical Support Volunteers are aimed towards people who would like to help out at athletics, but can not commit to and/or are uninterested in formal qualifications; this will give them the opportunity to help out through attending a practical workshop.

Sunday August 10th 2008 saw the annual running of the Sydney Morning Herald City 2 Surf 14K road race.
Blue Mountains Athletics Club athletes were in action on in this 14k road race. This race sees athletes racing over a hilly course from Sydney to Bondi Beach. The biggest challenge manifests itself at 7k after Rose Bay, with the runners climbing Heartbreak Hill. The course then roll on to North Bondi and then to the finish line at the beach.
In
a field that numbered almost 70,000, Earl O'Brien completed the course
in 48.31, Jim Perrett in 48.46 and Edward O'Brien in 52.46.
However, the outstanding effort of the day came from BMAC Under 14 female athlete, Taylor Wild who ran a superb 58.47. James Barnes also came home in the time of 61.10.
Whilst it is impossible to list all the club results here, athletes can find their times at www.city2surf.sunherald.com.au
The results website is currently exhibiting a lot of hits so you may find access a challenge for the next few days.
Well done guys.
